What's the deal with Hastings? A town where the mundane gets to be extraordinary, the ordinary becomes fascinating and where everybody knows your name – even when they're not in a bar. I mean, come on folks, isn’t that something?
So, let's take a stroll through this bustling town, just as the sun comes up. As the morning dew on the grass glistens in the early rays of sunshine, the kids at HYAA Youth Baseball and Softball have already started swinging for the fences. And boy, they sure do have something to celebrate. 'Congratulations to the HYAA Hastings Legion Post 47 Team for advancing to the State Tournament!' They haven’t qualified in 20 years. Now, that's the kind of comeback story even Seinfeld would envy!
Just around the corner, a game of another kind is in full swing. The Emerald Greens Golf Course is teeming with energy. And the weather is just perfect – a sunny day on the course, summer in full bloom. It's almost like the universe's personal invitation to come out and play!
Meanwhile, Nicole's Nu Wave Hair Design is buzzing – literally. 'Thank you so much for taking time on a Sunday night for a cutting class!' A Sunday night, people! In a town where even the hairdressers are dedicated to their craft. Now that’s Hastings for you!
While some are busy grooming, others are making a splash. Day III of the Minnesota Senior LC State Championships-2023 was a wet and wild success. The Hastings Area Swim Team had some fun in the sun and qualified for finals in 6 events. Now that's what I call making waves!
Mid-day, we stroll past Quality Landscape Curbing LLC. 'With the tools at our disposal and years of experience, we're here to deliver the incredible landscape curbing results that you deserve!' From green fields to curbed landscapes, Hastings is nothing if not versatile!
We're not done with the surprises yet. The day gets softer and fuzzier as we visit Eagle Eye Farm. A cute little white boy – an alpaca, mind you, was born on July 2nd. A bottle baby, yet to be officially named. Some call him Q-Tip, others Nibbles, but I say, what’s in a name? The cuteness remains the same!
Next up, Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center is already gearing up for the Carpenter Art Festival. Great art, amazing food from Pizza Karma – now that's what I call a slice of life!
On the cultural side of things, Spiral Summer Theater Camp just gave a mesmerizing performance of 'Jungle Book' at Rivertown Days. They're scheduled for an encore this Friday at Hastings Middle School. Now, that's what I call drama!
As the sun sets, the crowd at The Port welcomes dusk with pretty drinks in hand. A chill evening at Red Wing's Distinct Cocktail Lounge sounds about right. Nothing like a cool drink to wash down a day of excitement.
As night falls, the ladies from Hastings Moms on the Run celebrate the beauty of diversity with their 'Running is for every. body.' philosophy. They say it brings all of us, as unique as we are, together. And to that, I say, ‘What a wonderful world!’
And that's a day in the life of Hastings folks! From the break of dawn at the baseball diamond to the twilight runs with the moms, every moment is an adventure. This little corner of the world may seem small, but its heart is larger than life itself. So, until our next stroll through town, stay quirky, Hastings, stay quirky!
