Well, well, well. Hastings. A delightful town where even the most mundane happenings become the stuff of legend. Imagine if you will, your humble narrator, somewhere between Larry David and a local tour guide, offering a blend of candid commentary and curmudgeonly charm. Let's take a brisk jaunt through a series of events so thrilling, they could only be the work of fate, or rather, of the LOCAL 10.
Over at HYAA Youth Baseball and Softball, they're swamped, I tell you. Absolutely swamped. Tournaments out the wazoo. You've got the In-House Baseball, State, Nationals, you name it! And the 12U Blue Softball team, these kids showed up in Toy Story attire and walked away with the 'best dressed' at the Nothern NAFA Nationals Parade. Cute. I guess.
Meanwhile, at Black Dirt Theater, DeDee and Brian are pounding the pavement, selling shirts, making buttons, and hawking tickets to "The Music Man". They're throwing discounts left and right. Is that a good business model? I don't know. But hey, it's for the love of the theater, right?
Then there's Mary and Theresa. These two ladies, they had a dream and a food kiosk. Now, with a little help from a SCORE Mentor, they've got a full-blown Vietnamese restaurant. Talk about a glow-up!
Over at the HAST swim meet, the competition is heating up. Records are shattering, people are making finals, and there's an incomprehensible number of numbers and events. It's pure chaos and I love it.
The Open Door is calling all volunteers! Mobile Lunchbox needs you to deliver meals to children across Dakota County School districts. It's a noble cause, sure, but it sounds like a lot of work. They do offer a van, though. And meals.
Speaking of work, Post 47 from Hastings Raider Baseball, they're just killing it. Gavin, Jack, Jarod, Tanner, and John, they've made SubState their playground. It's a veritable Hastings baseball renaissance!
Now we've got Rolling River Bike Rental waxing poetic about Red Wing. They love it. You'll love it. Especially on their e-bikes, I guess. What, we too good for old-fashioned pedaling now?
Let's not forget about New Richmond Lift Bridge Brewery. They've got great beer and now they've got gourmet hot dogs from their new "pop up" restaurant, Ollie’s. It's hot dogs, folks. But supposedly, the best ever. I'll believe it when I taste it.
Get Real Dog Training. They're teaching Buckey to keep his cool around dogs and bikes. Seems like a good idea. Probably saves on bike tire replacements.
Last but not least, there's Rise Up Recovery MN. They're moving their women's housing program to Hastings, looking to integrate their residents into the local community. Sounds like a win-win to me.
And there you have it, folks! The bustling whirlwind of life that is Hastings, as told by your grumpy yet charming LOCAL 10 tour guide. From baseball to theater, breweries to e-bikes, and even some dedicated dog training, there's no denying the simple truth: Life in Hastings never fails to amuse. So, until next time, keep it real, keep it local, and maybe, just maybe, keep your dog away from those shiny new e-bikes.
