Hey there, Hastings, it's your favourite curmudgeon back back to fill you in on the top ten things that are shaping our quaint little city. You might have been expecting another mundane list, but oh no, not today! I'm throwing a curveball and transforming the mundane into something quite riveting. Be prepared to laugh, cry, or, more likely, stare blankly at your screen wondering why you've yet to switch over to a different tab. But before you go, remember: these are your neighbors, your friends, your annoyingly chipper local business owners – you might as well see what they're up to.

Number one, our homegrown vinicultural marvel, Alexis Bailly Vineyard, celebrating 50 years of delightfully "suffering grapes." I mean, who came up with that motto? This Sunday, they're doling out the sounds of Natania & Ticket to Brazil, right here in Minnesota, with a side of wine. Jazz, bossa nova, samba – it's like the United Nations of sounds, and all you have to do is show up.

Speaking of showing up, Black Dirt Theater's got something exciting brewing for this Sunday. They're taking over Spiral Brewery's Taproom, because apparently, nothing screams 'theater' like 'beer'. But hey, I'm not judging. Especially when there's a meat raffle involved at Dugarel’s Bar & Grill. Who could say no to potentially winning a meaty prize for their summer grilling needs?

Need a new place to store all your meat winnings? How about a 2021-built house, practically oozing luxury. Seriously, RedWingHomesForSale.com isn't messing around. High ceilings, a walk-in closet, a gas-burning fireplace? I can just imagine the dinner parties...or the more likely scenario of Netflix marathons with takeout.

Next on our local drama, the Hastings Area Swim Team. They're making waves in Des Moines, with a notable shout-out to Caleb Urban for his breaststroke mastery. Keep it up, Hastings' own Aquamen and Mermaids!

Now, for something completely different, Edina Realty is stirring up the town with a good ol' Medallion Hunt. Nothing like a good hunt to bring the community together, eh? Apparently, there's $500 on the line – just remember not to trample the neighbours' flowers while you're frantically searching.

Over at nearby Summit Music, we have some serious heartstring-tuggers. Charlene Hess & Natalie VanBurkleo-Carbonara recently delighted seniors with a mix of classical hits. The stories shared in the aftermath of the concert are bound to choke you up. Classical music, stirring memories, a connection beyond time and space, what's not to like?

You're probably hungry by now, and El Original Mexican Restaurant has you covered. No specifics, just good food and drinks. Seems straightforward, if you ask me.

Spiral Food Co-op's bringing something fresh to the table with their new online application platform. They're in search of a part-time deli, meat, and cheese assistant. The perfect job for any cheese connoisseur or aspiring sandwich artist out there.

In the realm of creativity, Squeaky Wheel Pottery is redefining kids' summer camps with clay and themes that spark imagination. Picture this: adorable frogs on a log, lily trays, and gnome rafts, all handcrafted by our city's little potters. I can barely handle the cuteness.

And finally, RiverCity PopCorn & Candy Company is opening their patio for the sweet tooth citizens among us. With homemade popcorn, ice cream, and other delightful goodies to devour while enjoying the sunny outdoors.

There you have it, Hastings. A rundown of what's happening in our beloved city. From music that transcends borders to heartwarming stories evoked by classical compositions, it's safe to say we're living in a vibrant community. Whether you're a wino, theatre enthusiast, swim fan, treasure hunter, job seeker, or just plain old sweet tooth, there's something for everyone. Isn't it nice to know that the same town that brings you traffic jams and potholes also delivers such quirky charm? So, enjoy your day, or don't, I'm not your boss. But remember, Hastings, we're all in this together...for better or worse.
